HUBRIS | SHORT | 35MM - 2PERF | LONDON - UK | 2021

DIRECTOR | DAN LÖWENSTEIN / WRITTEN BY ROM BLANCO

This ambitious project, written and starring Rom Blanco, is the tale of a high octane ill-fated drug fuelled exchange between three vibrant personalities. I opted to shoot 35mm 2-perf for this project, which I felt lent itself to the gritty nature of the narrative, 35mm offered a texture and feel to the story, whilst the wider aspect ratio allowed me to hold all three characters in a single frame. To help achieve this bold and gritty look, I sought inspiration from the likes of Tony Scott & Michael Mann ( Deja Vu, Domino, Collateral ). Pushing the 5219 500T film stock and using mixed light sources to both dirty and introduce grit into the negative, whilst forcing colour separation and a sense of otherworldliness. Shooting with a tight budget is always a challenge, even more so when shooting 35mm film stock. I was incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful camera & lighting team, who helped to keep this project in reach.

We were very fortunate to have a stellar cast who delivered exceptionally passionate and animated performances, driven by the great Dan Lowenstein at the helm.
